    Summary of Responsibilities:

    This position will generate and develop superior, award-worthy features of any length. They will be the lead content producer covering all facets of the team for Cardinals Gameday Magazine, the annual Cardinals Yearbook, and the online presence of those publications. They must be a prolific producer who manages overlapping deadlines in an environment characterized by high volume, high performance, and high standards.



    Essential Functions of the Job:

    • Write three to four full-length feature stories and departmental features for each monthly issue of Cardinals Magazine
    • Write the majority of content for the annual Cardinals Yearbook
    • Provide strategized daily/weekly coverage of the team through the department’s new online and digital initiatives
    • Build a network of relationships across the entire organization in order to effectively and fully develop the sum and substance of feature story possibilities
    • Monitor Cardinals coverage of other print, broadcast, and online media and strategize our content to provide superior stories and unique angles


    Education and Experience Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or English
    • 7+ years’ experience covering a professional sports team for a weekly/monthly sports magazine or a mid to large market newspaper
    • 7+ years’ experience as a features writer covering a major professional sports team
    • 7+ years’ experience interviewing professional athletes, club officials, and other baseball-industry employees
    • A proven track record of superior news/creative judgment and the instincts to identify stories and develop them on the fly
    • A demonstrated ability to adapt a story’s narrative to fit the medium – daily (online club media), monthly (Cardinals Magazine), or annual (Cardinals Yearbook).
    • A comprehensive knowledge of baseball (current and historical) and an in-depth familiarity of the Cardinals
    • Advanced research skills using print, online, and broadcast media and credible/authoritative Web tools to develop and ensure accuracy of content
    • Advanced knowledge of AP style, literary and compositional style, spelling, grammar, and punctuation


    Minimum Education and Experience:

    All I know is the position was taken down a few days after it was posted on the original website.

    Totally speculating here, but a lot of people in baseball are on the move right now with the start of spring training. I've seen teams get serious about filling openings after they get settled in and can focus on them a little more.

    I also noticed the job was removed, but that was after a few weeks. So I took that to mean they were closing the search and narrowing down candidates. Figured there'd be something happening on this one by now, though.
