That's what happens when you don't have a deal with the squirrels.

Once at my house in Ohio, somehow the chimney cover came off and a baby squirrel fell down onto the flue, which was up. It crawled down and started banging up against the chimney doors. I was totally freaked and somehow managed to call this biz called Critter Control. Only they told me they couldn't come until the next day. So I duct taped up the chimney doors so the thing couldn't get out into my living room and just prayed. It kept banging and scratching at the doors. I went off to work and when I came home, I heard nothing. So I went to sleep. The next day, Critter Control dude showed up (and you think you have a bad job) and opened the doors and found the squirrel on the top of the flue. Said it probably had a heart attack trying to get back out. Sigh.

  6. I'd watch my back. That squirrel probably had family.

Well, luckily I sold the house and moved to another state then! :)

I find the fact that this story is not out of Kentucky shocking.

There's something in my walls. Occasionally I hear it "knocking." It's more like it's banging something on the framing. It does it rapidly, but not fast enough to be a woodpecker. Plus, I don't have any holes on the outside of the house. It's inside my bedroom walls, and it tends to do it in the morning, which is when I usually sleep. I just assume it's squirrels.

I love that this was in the New York Times Dining and Wine section.

    That won't matter.
