    My guess is they're going to see if they can hire someone for that price, then when they realize that's never going to happen, they'll move on.

    Having run the sports department there back in the '80s and having been out of a full-time gig for more than a year, I'm really puzzling this one (Mrs. T. wants me back working F-T badly, even if for short money). I certainly respect the work that's been done over there, but I'm not sure the publisher would want me back in any capacity (politics, schmolitics).
    They'll get somebody for that $. Whether it's quality...

    I was a stringer there circa 1980. Got hired to run the Coventry weekly, which promptly folded after my first issue. For some reason, I can't remember the salary.

    Wow, that paper has churned out some sports writers over the years.

    My first professionally published story was in the Beacon in 1978 or 1979. Toll Gate basketball.

    Then I followed Charlie to Woonsocket.

    I think that's how it worked.
