Two questions: Does this publication staff Tennessee home football/basketball games? Would this position involve page design work?

Yes, we do staff Tennessee football/basketball games and other UT sports. Our office is 15 miles from the Tennessee campus. And no, to my knowledge the position will not include page design.

I'm not familiar with the area. Is this paper second fiddle to (Gannett's) The Tennessean? Honest question, not trying to be a smartass.

Yes. Maryville and Alcoa football (located about six miles apart in Blount County) have around 25 combined state championships, so it's a fertile area for prep sports. Also cover Heritage and William Blount high schools night in and night out. And spot coverage of Greenback High School.

And we cover the University of Tennessee and Maryville College (Division III) as close to daily as possible.

Been through Maryville en route to Smoky Mtn. National Park a couple of times. Nice town that looks well-kept in a very pretty part of the country.

I applied for this at the beginning of the weekend and received more information from the sports editor about the position a couple days later. Seems like a great place to do a lot of great stuff as a reporter. Hopefully, I can get an interview!
