    This is way, way off for a sportswriter opening, but this paper has been a stepping stone for a number of Gannett employees who are now very high on the food chain (EICs, VPs, etc.).

    Summers there are boring and hot, and then the wind shifts and you smell the fishkill from the Salton Sea. But, hey, there's no shortage of casinos and nice restaurants.

    I was surprised in regards to the size and quality of this paper when I was in Palm Springs not to long ago. They have one kick ass sports department specially for Prep Football.
