Sports writer -- News-Star (Monroe, Louisiana)

    The News-Star in Monroe, LA, is looking for a skillful, energetic and talented sports writer to join our award-winning staff. This position will focus on high school sports in an area that consistently produces state championship teams. The ideal candidate will be able to develop relationships with coaches, players and fans, have excellent writing skills (and the ability to write deadline game stories, features and columns) and produce short videos to complement the stories. An understanding the importance of social media (Twitter, Facebook and blogs) is required. Valid drivers' license and insurance plus safe driving record required. Please attach samples of your work through the application process.

    Qualifications:

    Applicant should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communications or a related field
    Applicant should have a thorough understanding of digital platforms, including desktop, tablet and smartphone, and know how to connect with audiences through them
    Applicant must have a strong command of writing for multiple platforms and should possess a thorough knowledge of The Associated Press Stylebook

    I don't know anything about the paper but Monroe is to Louisiana what Odessa is to Texas as far as football goes. ULM also beat Arkansas last year. The Monroe teams are tough in baseball too.
