You could do worse than St. George/Cedar City when it comes to Utah. I would definitely prefer Cedar City over St. George any day of the week. Been through the area numerous times, and St. George seems to get worse. If I remember right, wasn't there a similar opening for a position like this roughly a year ago? I think it involved some basketball coverage and some football on the side...

  2. I think Southern Utah is Division I.

That area is a pretty part of the world. Zion and Bryce Canyon national parks are nearby.

Pay is the same in both spots. That makes a big difference as St. George is pricey.

I guess Rebel Paul, a new poster on the board, is still there in Cedar. I interviewed in Cedar in Feb. and it's okay for a first or second stop. If you're in Cedar, you will have to commute to St. George for a desk shift once a week.

southern utah is D-1 and plays in the summitt conference I believe. The schools would love su to leave because of travel issues.

Even if they drop the "private club" law, on the other side of the Virgin River Gorge (I second the motion on how breathtaking the drive is) is the town of Mesquite, Nev., which has 3-4 casinos that charge next to nothing for their rooms, as well as a couple of golf courses.

Great area for outdoors opportunities, traditional and extreme.

Vegas is a short hop away as is the Grand Canyon and aforementioned fantastic national parks.

Been there for an interview once and I give the city a definite thumbs up. The staff in St. George is full of class acts, though I can't speak for the Cedar City staff. It's a Gannett paper, so be prepared for regional toning centers and all the other policies that company brings to the table.

Still, for a beginning job or somewhere to build clips for a year or so, this is a great opportunity.

St. George was downwind from a lot of nuclear fallout in the 1950s and 60s wasn't it?

A buddy and I passed through there in 1994, it is beautiful country out there...

    All I got.

Worked there for a little under three years in the 1990s. Incredible country, fine people and the pay is good enough if you're early on in your career. Any shortcomings in the wallet are more than compensated for by the country and people. Marvelous. Nothing but good times for me. You can PM me, if need be.

Are they just getting around to replacing the effin' stud who left there months ago for Bend?

It's a different opening. I interviewed for Beau's spot a few months ago that Rebel Paul filled.

I don't know if the SUU football beat writer left or who left in St. George.
