The TimesDaily, a daily newspaper and digital-first news organization in Florence, Ala., is seeking a sports reporter to cover primarily high school sports, along with some college sports. We need an energetic, inquisitive and productive professional with excellent reporting and writing skills to provide articles, web updates, tweets and short videos, and compile statistics. The job will require evening hours and weekends. Florence is a progressive community on the Tennessee River in northwest Alabama with excellent housing, good public schools, a variety of cultural activities and a growing state university. The successful candidate will need a college degree or equivalent experience, a passion for journalism and a reputation for quality and integrity. Send cover letter, resume and writing clips to Gregg Dewalt, Senior Sports Editor, TimesDaily, Box 797, Florence, AL 35631 or email gregg.dewalt@TimesDaily.com. We are looking to move quickly to fill this position.

A fine opportunity in a nice area, with bigger areas not far away, and working for a great guy.

Gregg is a great sports editor, man, friend and golfer. Not necessarily in that order.

All you young journalists out there do yourselves a favor and apply. While it's not the Moddy Seal of Approval, it's got mine.

The guy is a tyrant and would play from the senior tees if you'd let him ;)

Good town, good people. Plus there's a tremendous media hospitality room every year in conjunction with the D2 national championship football game held in Florence.

Gregg is awesome, the paper does good work and at least when I was there the pay was better than expected. Florence/Shoals is a pretty good area that's hardly expensive.

For a state without a huge population base, Alabama has had its share of sports and news openings lately.

We excel at playing ball, bribing politicians and starting fights. What's not to live?

Another golfing ace running a sports section in Alabama? I guess this means those of us who need a multitude of mulligans and/or are banned from Putt-Putt have a shot.

Was Gregg Dewalt at one time the SE at the Daily Corinthian in Mississippi? Maybe 15-20 years ago? Or am I thinking of someone else altogether? That name seems to ring a bell, however.
