    Description:
The Courier -- a terrific 20K, family-owned, six-day daily in Findlay, Ohio – is seeking a dynamic sports copy editor and reporter with excellent design and writing skills to join a staff of four. You will become part of a friendly, hard-working staff that is loaded with talent and dedicated to excellence in print and online.

We have the largest concentration of small-sized high schools in Ohio and we cover 30 schools with the focus on Findlay High School and a 10-team conference. We also have the University of Findlay, which won the 2009 Division II men’s national basketball championship, owns four NAIA national titles, and another in wrestling. Also, we have results and features of four other Division II and III colleges. Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo are part of the sports pages.

We need a self-starter who can make an immediate contribution to sound sports page design, enterprising sports news and feature reports, and multimedia presentations. At least you are honest, upfront and not looking for "hungry" reporters.

Yes, it is helpful when papers list at least a range for the pay...gives you an idea what you're getting into.

What's with all the openings recently?

Never had turnover like this before and I've been there 14 years.
-- Editorial page editor recently took a job in Corpus Christi, Tex. Crime reporter moved into that spot.
-- County gov't reporter took a job in South Bend, Ind. (She went to Notre Dame)
-- Copy editor left because his wife is going to grad school a Michigan State
-- Sports writer Mark Heiman left after 20 years to take a job with better hours and a little better pay.

It's a pretty good place to work. Family-owned newspaper. Haven't had any layoffs in the newsroom (although right now we have to take two furlough days per quarter).
Never missed out on a yearly raise or Christmas bonus in 14 years.
Findlay is a small town and not everyone's cup of tea but the cost of living is pretty low here.

Apparently, this job has been filled internally. I'm not sure if that's by a part-timer or by someone from another department, but they've got a lot of good writers and I'm sure the new person will do a good job.

Well, that was a waste of $2... :)

Maybe some of these places could avoid wasting our time if they'd do an internal search before posting a job externally.
