The Dodge City Daily Globe has an immediate opening for a versatile sports writer to join our energetic sports staff, covering area high schools, Dodge City Community College and tackling general sports assignments.

Previous sports writing experience and a firm grasp of AP style are essential, as is the ability to meet daily deadlines. Duties include writing daily stories as well as paginating several nights a week. New graduates and/or journalists with undergraduate degrees in journalism looking to move up from weekly publications are encouraged to apply.

We boast a multimedia-savvy news staff. This is a great chance for a motivated journalist just starting out to get their feet wet with southwest Kansas’ leading daily newspaper. Looking at moving up from a weekly? We will work to develop the right person willing to take that next step. Ability to shoot photos preferred, but will train the right person. Ability to paginate using QuarkXPress is a plus.

Dodge City is a town of about 30,000 people in the southwest corner of Kansas. We offer competitive pay with full benefits. Please mail resume, including salary expectations, and three to five clips. You can also send PDFs of your layouts and stories via email. We would like to fill this position as soon as possible. Please contact Daily Globe Managing Editor Gene Lehmann at gene.lehmann@dodgeglobe.com (620) 408-9908 or Sports Editor Mack McClure at mack.mcclure@dodgeglobe.com.. You can reach Mack on his cell phone at (913) 206-9218 or his newsroom line at (620) 408-9909. Only interested applicants are encouraged to apply.

Couple bullets and a whiskey in a dirty glass down at the ol' swingin' door cantina. Provided you don't get gunned down on Wyatt Earp Boulevard on your carriage ride to Garden City with the pinkertons.

There's been more turnaround at this place than a square dance. New ME, and I believe SE. At one time, they got rid of the No. 2 sports position, and had one guy covering a bunch of prep and a juco, along with rodeo and all the other small-town bullshit.

Lovely town ... if you're into isolation and the smell of cow shit.

Thought they were getting casino gambling there. At least that would be something a Daily Globe employee could do in their off hours for entertainment.
