We’re looking for someone who wants to energize a sports department by covering not just the many championship prep and community college teams we have here, but also cover the people who spend their free time taking advantage of the nearby rock climbing, hiking, fishing and hunting that the area has to offer. The job encompasses all sports in a sports-crazy town. The 8,200-circulation daily newspaper wants a self-starter who is passionate about storytelling and loves people. The job includes reporting and design. Submit a resume and up to 15 clips of sports news and features by Aug. 1. Send to Editor Ann Turner, P.O. Box 3006, Gillette, WY 82717 (UPS or FedX to 1201 W. Second St., Gillette WY 82716).

I worked here briefly a few years ago and learned a ton. Good people there. Sports are huge in Gillette, especially the high school stuff (great at pretty much everything). The junior college in town started basketball programs this year and also has cross country and rodeo. Good place for a young reporter to grow and take some chances.

Just remember that the higher salary is offset by a high cost of living.
