Community daily in beautiful Central Florida is seeking an energetic, aggressive and detail-oriented sports writer / copy desk editor.

Duties include general assignment reporting in sports-rich east Polk County, Fla., copy editing and sports page designing.

This is a highly competitive journalism and online news market. The successful applicant will have solid reporting, writing, editing and layout skills and the initiative and discipline necessary to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Minimum qualifications include a four-year degree in journalism or mass communications, college newspaper and/or newspaper internship experience, and at least one year of professional sports reporting experience with a weekly or daily newspaper. Experience with photography and Adobe Photoshop and page design using Adobe InDesign also is required.

This would have interested me when the Indians called it their spring training home, but not really now. Whenever I went there to see the tribe, it seemed like the town was mostly a retirement home for northern transplants (not unlike much of Florida I guess). Tampa and Orlando aren't too far away though.
