Our APSE award-winning daily seeks an aggressive writer to develop prep, high school coverage. The Antelope Valley Press covers 16 high schools, a community college, a minor league baseball team, and all Los Angeles-area professional teams and Division 1 colleges. Local takes priority, but area coverage includes Dodgers, Lakers, USC and UCLA. Applicants should have a college degree with Journalism, English, or similar background. Previous writers have moved on to the Los Angeles Daily News, North County Times, and Stockton Record. Qualified applicants please send resume and 5-7 clips with cover letter and salary history to Antelope Valley Press, P.O. Box 4050, Palmdale, CA 93590-4050, fax to (661) 267-4284, or e-mail to personnel@avpress.com.

Circulation is just a shade under 23,000. Any idea who owns the paper? As for the town, there's a good-sized buffer between it and Los Angeles.

It looks like there's been a fair amount of turnover recently:

FWIW, I have had good relations with the paper in the past few years freelancing for them. They've got a hell of a Big League softball program that always manages to send a team to the World Series (where I pick up the team for stories). It does seem like there's a lot of turnover, though.

Actually the circulation is about 33,000 and holding steady rather than declining as is the case with many newspapers. It's privately owned.
The turnover has been for a variety of reasons:
Last year our former SE quit to go to cooking school
Another staff member moved to Chicago to be with his girlfriend
Another quit because he was homesick and moved back to Minnesota
Another split for the Merced paper
Another moved to Colorado because his fiancee got a job there
Our agate clerk left because she was going to college
Another got fired for cussing at a coach
A copy editor went to another paper owned by the LA Times
My ASE is going to Boston because his girlfriend got into law school there
A writer is leaving to go to the bay area (where he's from) and sell houses with his mom
another staffer is leaving to go to grad school.
A lot of turnover, yes, but we roll with it and try to get better.
