Our sports department has an odd affinity for calling season openers "lidlifters."

I use tilt and barnburner with wanton disregard.

I still cringe every time one of the local TV guys says "Smith is coming in to give Harrison a blow."

    Lidlifter, awesome.

As in "Pitcher Joe Bloe will be toeing the slab for the Gotham nine in their campaign lidlifter."

This has to be paired in the betting with "Jones now in the game for Podunk to spell Murray." I always picture someone taking his position and saying "M-U-R-R-A-Y" for the rest of the game.

    Twinbills.

Twi-nighters (since they no longer exist)

Know someone who still uses twinbill and refers to the second game as nightcap even when it ends in broad daylight.

Better than when a football analyst says the quarterback has a pass-rusher "coming right in his face."

"He's throwing up in the bullpen."

"the deuce is wild" (2 on, 2 out, 2 balls, 2 strikes; and sometimes, 22 is pitching to 22 when it's a 2-2 score).
