The Washington County Daily News, located in West Bend, Wisconsin, about 40 minutes north of Milwaukee, is looking for a full-time sports reporter to join its award-winning staff.
The sports section is consistently ranked among the top sections in the state with newspapers of equal size.
The Daily News, which publishes Tuesdays through Saturdays and is owned by Conley Media, covers eight high schools in Washington County. Reporters are required to be versatile with the sports they cover and with their abilities. Reporters are often asked to write stories, copy edit, paginate and, from time to time, photograph events, in one shift.
Must be able to work nights, along with some weekends and holidays.
The Daily News' primary responsibilities are to cover the local high school sports scene, providing in-depth coverage of the teams the readers want and deserve with quality game coverage to go along with eye-catching features and enterprise stories.
An interest in the outdoors is not required, but it is a plus, as hunting and fishing are popular sports in the region, with the Kettle Moraine State Forest Northern Unit located in the county. The successful hire will take over the duties of the weekly Outdoors page.
Applicant must be proficient with word processing, Adobe Photoshop and page design programs (Quark and/or InDesign). Strong knowledge of The Associated Press stylebook is essential.
Please send writing samples, cover letter and resume to sports editor Nicholas Dettmann: ndettmann@conleynet.com.
The Daily News offers health benefits, 401k and paid vacation. Conley Media is an equal opportunity employer.
