So, you'll cover Palmer and Wasilla High Schools, both of which have pretty good sports programs. There's also the Alaska Avalanche, a Junior-A hockey team, though they haven't been a very good one the last couple years (but they had a lot of really young people last year so they should return a lot of their roster, so they might be OK this year).
Unless something has changed (and I doubt it) you wouldn't travel to Fairbanks or Juneau with the teams. You'd just get stories from the Daily News-Miner or Empire.

Can't say I really know too much about the shop itself.

EDIT: There's also Colony High School, how could I forget about them?

Plus if you have it out with someone you work with there, all you have to do is call the governor and she'll make sure he or she is fired ;)

Why would one want to "Russia from the newsroom"?

If you have too much Taco Bell, you'll have to Russia from the newsroom to the bathroom.

I won't be here all week, folks.

  12. On a serious note, how do papers in Alaska get anyone up there from the Lower 48 unless they offer relocation expense help? And in this economy, I'm guessing that isn't going to happen.

Anyone have any insight on whether AK papers do that?
