This gig has the Radar O'Reilly stamp of approval.

I knew it was a matter of time before a Radar O'Reilly comment was made.

Don't know much about the staff situation, but I can tell you a bit about the town.

PROS: Cost of living is low, Indian Hills always has a top JUCO b-ball team to cover, plenty of opportunities for feature stories on athletes/residents from a wide range of backgrounds -- especially from Latin America. It would help to speak Spanish. Nearby Fairfield is chock full of inneresting characters ... (it's the home of Maharishi University).

CONS: Ottumwa is a meatpacking town -- I believe the plant is owned by Cargill these days. There's been labor strife in the past, and the usual social upheaval that comes from a predominantly immigrant work force. There's no quick, direct way to Iowa City, despite what the ad says. I highly doubt you will be covering any Hawkeye or Cyclone sporting events.

Probably a decent job opportunity for a recent college grad.
