The Times-News of Twin Falls, Idaho, is seeking a talented, cutting-edge sports reporter to join a three-person staff that punches above its weight and leads the way in reporting sports news in southern Idaho. Anyone can write a game story, but we want a multi-faceted reporter who will go beyond the box scores for human interest and issue stories.

We aim to be first and best both locally and statewide. Our sports staff is as talented as any in the state, earning three APSE awards in the past two years and a dozen state and regional awards over the same. Our sports alumni have gone on to work in larger Western metros including Boise and Colorado Springs, while news alums have worked in media markets including Madison, Wis. and Chicago.

Twin Falls is a growing community of about 50,000 people, with more than 130,000 people residing within our coverage area. We cover Boise State football, a perennial NJCAA power in the College of Southern Idaho, and 28 high schools. This is an affordable community with great schools and if you love the outdoors, you’ll have access to great hunting, fishing, kayaking, rock climbing, hiking and mountain biking.

The Times-News is a 17,500-circulation daily newspaper (21,500 on Sundays) owned by Lee Enterprises. We offer an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and vacation. We are an equal opportunity employer. You can see our website at www.magicvalley.com and learn more about our company at www.lee.net.

Applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and five writing samples demonstrating a range of reporting and writing ability at www.magicvalley.com/workhere.

We are a drug-free workplace, and all applicants considered for employment must pass a post-offer drug screen and background/MVR screening prior to commencing employment.

I'm the one leaving this position and would be happy to answer any questions. My departure has very little to do with the job itself and almost everything to do with the time being right for me to pursue a lifelong dream outside of the journalism business. I've been at the paper about a year and enjoyed the job very much.
