    The Sports Reporter is responsible for generating quality content related to sports, sports activities, recreation and the outdoors. This includes stories, photographs and video, for all editions and companion products, niche publications and special sections. We need a Reporter with a passion for winter sports especially skiing (nordic and alpine) and snowboarding. Meeting deadlines, and covering all aspects of sporting and recreation is crucial.

    Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

    • Faithfully executes the publisher/general manager and managing editor’s vision of the newspaper

    • Is a journalist eager to communicate on all platforms including print and digital, following the newsroom’s digital content plan

    • Writes stories, shoots photographs and video for multiple products and projects as directed in publication’s content plan

    • Demonstrates knowledge of spectator as well as participatory sports, especially those of interest to an outdoor-oriented audience

    • Writes and files 5-6 well-written, bylined stories and/or sidebars per average week along with photographs to illustrate

    • Posts content online including through social media avenues adhering to best digital practices

    • Embraces and follows the requirements included/outlined in the news organization's content strategy and plan as well as the organization's digital newsroom strategy

    • Consistently creates well-designed, well-presented pages following established design styles

    • Collaborates with editors on packaging/storytelling opportunities

    • Collaborates with peers and other editors on special projects

    • Adheres to and follows the newsroom workflow to meet all deadlines

    • Fully understands and utilizes the functionality of computer systems and software used in the day-to-day work of producing a newspaper and digital product

    • Is a champion for accuracy

    • Other duties as outlined and required by the publisher/general manager

    • Active participation in planning sessions and weekly team meetings

    Qualifications:

    • Excellent communications and listening skills, both written and verbal

    • Demonstrated organizational skills

    • Strong comprehension of English language and grammar skills

    • Understanding of and utilization of analytical tools for web and Internet

    • Knowledge of AP standards

    • Working knowledge of Associated Press style and an understanding of the daily newspaper environment.
