The Sacramento Bee, a McClatchy paper serving Northern California, is looking for a reporter who can write stories that capture the broad scope of sports – from how they shape our communities and make money to their influence on culture. This is a beat that covers the people, business and issues of sports and does so from the fans’ perspective, breaking news that matters to them and providing rich, in-depth stories. Candidates should be able to develop a provocative Sunday feature as well as interact with our online audience, through breaking news or social network platforms. Candidates should have three to five years experience reporting, an ability to write on deadline for multiple platforms, and show superior writing skill in crafting enterprise pieces. Send a resume and samples to Scott Lebar, Senior Editor/Culture and Sports, sacbeeresumes@gmail.com or The Sacramento Bee, P.O. Box 15779, Sacramento, CA, 95852.

Candidates should know how to file for unemployment and how to work in an atmosphere where everybody is deathly afraid of losing their jobs.

Interesting since they just cut five from the newsroom, including the sports editor.

This sounds more like an enterprise job than a beat writer, which seems curious with all the recent cutbacks. Still, this is one of the few affordable areas left in California ...

That place has cut so many great writers in the last few years it's disgusting.

Sounds like a fun gig, but surprised this company is serious about investing in a position that you have to think the suits in Bean Counter Central view as fluff...

Sounds like someone at McClatchy cut a weeeee bit too much. Then they looked at the 3Q numbers and said "oh, I guess the quarter wasn't THAT bad" and said we have room to rehire one. (At a reduced salary, of course.)

Regardless, good luck to all those who apply.
