The Rawlins Daily Times seeks a sports reporter to cover high school and community sports. The Daily Times covers all of Carbon County, which includes multiple high schools. The position requires weekend work, as well as covering events outside of sports when needed. Candidates should have solid grasp of AP, reporting and journalism ethics. Extra consideration is given to candidates with strong copy-editing ability, Web site experience, lay-out experience (Quark) and photography skills.
The Rawlins Daily Times is a community-first, award-winning, five-day-a-week newspaper in south central Wyoming. Rawlins and Saratoga, located 40 miles from Rawlins, were both listed in the top 10 of best outdoor cities (hunting, fishing, etc.) by Outdoor Life Magazine last year, and both were listed in top 20 the year before. Send a resume, cover letter, three to five work samples, and a list of at least three references to Jerry Raehal at jerryraehal@rawlinstimes.com. Incomplete applications will not be considered for the position.

It's Rawlins, pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Got gas (for my car) there once. That's all I got.

    The weather sucks in Rawlins.

    Great Thai food there, though.

All Rawlins really has is high school sports. Five high schools in the county, but four of them are tiny and Rawlins is pretty bad in pretty much everything, except volleyball. Good break-in position, the kind of job that will be what you make of it.
