The Northwest Signal, a daily newspaper in Napoleon, Ohio is searching for an energetic sports writer who is eager to grow and develop within our sports department. This is a full-time position working an average of 40 hours per week and includes a great benefits package.

Our sports department focuses mainly on 4 local area high schools and this person will step in as the “No. 2” on the sports staff, along with the sports editor. The staff also includes several part-time writers and photographers.

The successful candidate will be a strong sports reporter and writer and have design and copy editing experience. If you are looking for a position that allows you to be creative and put your own passions into the paper and online every day, this is it.

A college degree in Journalism is a plus. Please send resume, writing clips, and examples of page design (if available) to Sports Editor, Jeff Ratliff at jeffr@northwestsignal.net.

Small town that is passionate about high school sports. Napoleon High competes in a league with a bunch of schools from the western and southern suburbs of Toledo (Sylvania, Maumee, Perrysburg, Bowling Green, etc.) and holds its own. There's also a couple of other successful smaller schools with strong followings, although I don't know exactly which schools the paper covers ... I'm not familiar with the paper, just the area.

US 24, the road between Toledo and Fort Wayne, was recently four-laned, so what was a dangerous drive to the big city is now safe and quick.
