Besides writing, you'll likely need to help out with a sports newscast.

    From JJobs.com http://www.journalismjobs.com/Job_Listing.cfm?JobID=949575

    Company: The Daily Republic
    Position: Sports reporter
    Location: Mitchell, South Dakota
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: $20,000 to $25,000
    Ad Expires: August 15, 2008
    Job ID: 949575
    Website: http://www.mitchellrepublic.com

The Daily Republic, a six-day newspaper in Mitchell, S.D., seeks a full-time sports reporter. Mitchell is a sports-crazed town that includes two high schools, a four-year college, 40 schools in the region and America's best pheasant hunting.

As if that isn't enough to keep us busy, our county is home to two first-round pro sports draft picks in the past decade.

This position is perfect for a seasoned writer or a recent college graduate who wants daily experience. The perfect candidate will understand how to gather and write sports "news," and not just be content to produce fill-in-the-blank game coverage.

    Interesting dichotomy.

I'd go for the pheasant hunting.

If the Wayzata paper can tout a once-a-generation talent, then it's worthy of note that NBA small forward Mike Miller grew up here.

    EDS: For Zeke. Thanks!

    Mike Miller, too.
