USA TODAY NETWORK is one of the top 20 digital companies in the country, sharing the list with Google, Facebook, and Amazon. And we have over 100 million unique visitors a month, which is more than Buzzfeed, Yahoo News, and Huffington Post. Because our team consists of over 110 local properties with USA TODAY at the helm, you’ll have the luxury of living in a community you love while making a national impact.

Digital college sports writer wanted to cover a NCAA Division I program in a university city.

The selected member will be digital savvy, equally capable of producing a video as he/she is with writing a breaking news story or with writing a quick-turnaround analysis from a game.

The chosen applicant will be a member of a 20-plus USA TODAY Network-Tennessee sports group which was recently honored with 20 Associated Press Sports Awards in 2017.

Interested applicants should apply and also send a digital resume to Phil Kaplan at pkaplan@gannett.com, include your top five links that show your expertise in digital storytelling.

When applying for a job, it's good to know what you are applying for.

Good advice. I've returned application packages sent via email that were sent to the wrong address, sight unseen.

It is, but the ad should at least mention what college you'd be covering.

It doesn't say what school and it initially had Knoxville as the city on the link. There wasn't mention of Murfreesboro until later on.

I read the ad, but is this essentially a beat job covering MTSU?

    Couldn't forward them, huh?

I knew a news editor who found an application packet buried in a stack of papers. It had been there for almost three months. Someone had apparently dropped it off in his desk mail basket right before the day's junk arrived. Somehow it got shifted underneath some borderline stuff and wasn't discovered for a while. The applicant was not great, but it was someone who at least deserved a response.

Never really understood why newspapers liked to dick around with people who might have been decent contributors. The position was basically the equivalent of a stringer, so it's not like anyone on the existing staff was going to get bumped.

This job was filled by Erik Bacharach, who previously covered prep sports in the Auburn. Ala., area.
