Do you like sports? Do you enjoy covering games, writing features, and telling stories? If so, the Hobbs News-Sun is looking for the next addition to its award-winning sports department.

In a coverage area of nearly 70,000 people, the News-Sun is a six-day a week newspaper (no Monday edition) in Hobbs, N.M. The News-Sun sports department is a two-person staff, which covers five high schools, a junior college, an NAIA university, local golf tournaments and professional rodeo. High school sports are king here and local teams are constantly competing for state championships.

The successful applicant will be expected to write game stories, previews, features and take photos, as well as providing strong insight and analysis on the teams in his or her beat. Experience at a weekly or small daily paper is preferred, but not required. This position is ideal for recent college graduates who are looking for experience and are willing to be an integral part of our ever-improving sports section.

Great spot to work and gain experience. Staff is solid and schools are competitive, especially Hobbs basketball.
