The Leader-Herald, a 12,000-circulation daily in upstate New York, is looking for an ambitious journalist to work as a sports reporter. The beat involves coverage of high school and college sporting events and in-depth coverage of local sports issues. Our sports reporters also look for light feature story ideas and strong 'enterprise.` The paper, which offers a competitive salary and benefits package, is in Fulton County amid the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. The area has a rich history, many lakes and countless opportunities for outdoor recreation. If this sounds interesting to you, please send a resume and five published writing samples to Tim Fonda, Managing Editor, The Leader-Herald, 8 E. Fulton St., Gloversville, NY 12078. You also may e-mail the material to lheditor@leaderherald.com.

They're offering a salary of $20k-$25k. Isn't that super cheap for upstate New York? Why not just ask you to work for free.

grizz, in essence, that's exactly what they're asking. But what's so surprising about that?

I worked with a guy in Bennington who worked in Gloversville. Isn't it a really, really small town?
