Their horse racing writer left the paper (and the business).

They now have two openings but are looking for one hire.

One person left in the fall: Not filling the position

One person left last week, leaving sports staff two people short: Filling the position. Doesn't necessarily mean this person will cover horse racing, though.

ok, so i meant, are they going to hire one then another later? or are they really going to ignore the fact saratoga is just down the street and people in the region actually care about horse racing?

is this once great (for its size) sports section now going to cave to the industry standard of "doing more with less?"

They'll still sink big-time resources into Saratoga, but last year, they cut the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup trips from the budget, which is unfortunate of course. The turf writer would cover high schools in the fall and winter months, I assume.

The Post-Star hired a designer that was working at the paper in Saratoga Springs and they hired a writer, Nick McManus (sp?) who was at the Trentonian.

No word on whether they will fill the second writer opening.
  7. So wait, is this position filled, meaning the original spot they had open?
