Gig Harbor is about 10 miles from Tacoma. Found the listing on journalismjobs. The heading said Sports Ed but the text says reporter. Pay is listed at $25K-30K.

The Peninsula Gateway, a state and national award-winning McClatchy weekly in the beautiful Gig Harbor area, has an opening for an experienced sports reporter to cover prep beats and outdoors/recreation. Candidates should have a college degree and newspaper experience that includes writing for the paper's website. If you're interested, please call, write or email:

Could you actually live in Gig Harbor on that wage, or is the commute from Tacoma going to be absolutely necessary?

Pay sounds low compared to cost of living. And unless I'm mistaken, I believe Brian McLean was prep sports reporter at The Olympian a few years back, about the time McClatchy was taking over The O and beginning the gutting process.
