The Faribault Daily News, a 6,000+ circulation, six-day-per-week daily morning newspaper in Faribault, Minn., is looking for a sports reporter to help bring its sports section to an even higher level. The successful candidate will have:

    • At least some college experience covering local sports with a demonstrable ability to get beyond covering simple gamers and into the issues, athletes and recreational sports that make for a well-rounded section.

    • Outstanding communication skills with the readers, athletes, coaches, parents and others with an interest in seeing a high-quality sports section.

    • The ability to write copy that is technically sound.

    • The ability to design or learn to design quality sports page (we use InDesign) that are clean, engaging and innovative.

    • Photography skills.

    • An understanding of the importance of the Web, as we redevelop our site into a 24-hour news center, for use in posting immediate results of games and other material.

Bottom line: We’re looking for someone with intense pride in helping create an award-winning section. If interested, send a cover letter, resume and samples of your work to managing editor John Agliata, P.O. Box 549, 514 Central Ave., Faribault, MN 55021 or to jagliata@faribault.com.
