The Dodge City Daily Globe, in Dodge City, Kan., is immediately seeking a sports reporter to help cover prep and junior college sports. There are multiple defending state champions in our coverage area, including the South Gray girls basketball team and Meade football team. The Daily Globe is a six-day-a-week morning paper serving Southwest Kansas. Dodge City is located a couple hours west Wichita. You will also be required to help with layout, using Adobe InDesign, and take photos.

Requirements are a strong writing skills, a knowledge of sports and a college degree. Applicants with photography and pagination skills are preferred.

To apply, send resume and clips of your work to sports editor Ryan Buchan, ryan.buchan@dodgeglobe.com and to publisher Darrel Adams, darrel.adams@dodgeglobe.com.

Good to see Dodge is expanding out to a 2-person sports staff back (and maybe they have for some time).

Not mentioned in this post is the new casino they've built in Dodge City, making it a destination stop for those with gambling issues living in Central Kansas. It's something that really no other small town in Kansas could offer, so if you consider that kind of thing a perk, there are several worse places in Kansas to work as a sports writer.

When will people be contacted for interviews and when is a decision expected to be made?

We should be making calls for interviews within the next couple of weeks. We could start inquiring for interviews as early as right after Christmas. We will be looking to fill the position as soon as possible.

Almost tempting enough to make me pack up and move. Almost.

If I had to take a stab at it, I'd guess $25K or less. Most likely less.
