The Billings Gazette, Montana’s largest newspaper and the state’s premier provider of sports content, is seeking a reporter to join our award-winning and innovative sports staff. The right person will have a passion for writing about the wide range of interests in a vast circulation area that extends from the Canadian border into northern Wyoming and western North Dakota. We’re also looking for someone with the skills to help produce three compelling daily print editions while having the savvy to enhance readership of our expanding online content.

Our extraordinary reach means we cover a lot – more than 150 high schools, two small colleges, a minor-league baseball team, an Indoor Football League team, world-class rodeo, and much, much more. We are expanding coverage of our two NCAA Division I programs (Montana and Montana State). You’ll need to be versatile, creative and energetic; knowing InDesign is a plus. In return, you’ll work with a remarkably experienced team of eight full-time staffers that have exceptional camaraderie and institutional knowledge. You’ll live in a rapidly growing city with an abundance of activities while having nearby access to some of the nation’s most beautiful country, most notably Yellowstone National Park.

The Gazette offers an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and vacation. We are an equal opportunity employer. Visit our Web site at www.billingsgazette.com to see what we’re doing and learn more about our company at www.lee.net.

If you’re interested in a great job on a great staff under new direction, send a cover letter, resume, three references and work examples that demonstrate why you’d be a great fit to www.billingsgazette.com/workhere.

P.S.: Please feel free to send me a message here or email at jwelsch@billingsgazette.com with any questions. -- Jeff Welsch (sports editor since late July). Answer No. 1: Bill Bighaus, longtime reporter and a wonderful guy, is retiring sometime in November.

Jeff Welsch is a great guy to work for. Class act in all of our limited interactions.

Bill Bighaus will be a difficult man to replace. Good luck to the Gazette on finding someone.
