The Bennington (Vt.) Banner is looking for a sports writer who seeks the challenge of doing work that matters and embraces the opportunities that our unique sports environment presents, in order to help us and our sister newspapers in Manchester and Brattleboro become the best community newspapers in America. Here, local sports matter — so you'll always be doing important work.

You'll write and edit for the Banner and the Manchester Journal, our sister newspaper to the north. And you'll never be bored. In beautiful Southern Vermont, high schools sports take center stage, and outdoor sports are a way of life.

We've got great preps to cover — recent state champions in lacrosse, baseball, snowboarding, football and soccer, and the most successful high school wrestling program ever to hit the mat in the state. But we also have Olympic and World Cup alpine and Nordic skiers in our backyard and a strong local golf scene. Hunting is part of our way of life. And Manchester is the birthplace of fly fishing in America.

We are seeking applicants with at least two years of experience in the field.

When you apply, provide at least three published clips, along with any other relevant work examples.

We offer a competitive compensation package for the most qualified candidate including health, dental, vision, and life insurances and a 401K.

We are locally owned. To learn more about the Bennington Banner and its New England Newspapers Inc. family, visit www.neni.news.

I grew up in Bennington. Let me know if you have any questions about the town and surrounding area.
