Capital Newspapers Beaver Dam Division seeks a full-time sports reporter to join the coverage team for its publications and websites located in Dodge County, Wisconsin. The position will be based in Beaver Dam, Wis., about 30 miles northeast of Madison. Candidates who choose to live in Beaver Dam or the immediate area (15 to 20 miles) will receive preferential consideration.

Our newspapers focus on local high school and college sports and local recreational sports (youth and adult). Our location produces the six-day Beaver Dam Daily Citizen and weekly Columbus Journal. Each publication also provides robust online coverage through wiscnews.com, wisconsinprepzone.com and social media. We also provide regular backup coverage and statistical support for sister newspapers in the region, including the Wisconsin State Journal and others.

The focus will be on teamwork, collaboration, organization and pitching in across multiple publications and platforms. We value a candidate who can be depended upon to satisfactorily and creatively complete assigned tasks with a minimum of hand-holding.

Reporting, writing and photography will be focal points of the position. The successful candidate should be well-versed with social media, camera and computer use. Line editing and page proofing will be a regular part of duties. The successful candidate should have a firm understanding of journalistic ethics, AP style, accuracy, sports rules and concepts, statistics-keeping, interviewing skills and relationship-building with sources.

To be considered for the position, applicants must apply online at www.jobs.capitalnewspapers.com. Enter as a potential employee and search for jobs in Wisconsin.
When applying, attach no more than five writing and photography samples.

The application deadline is July 11, 2014.
