Sports planning editor, Louisville Courier-Journal

Discussion in 'Journalism Jobs' started by boundforboston, Jan 10, 2015.

  1. The Courier-Journal is seeking a digitally savvy journalist to oversee planning of its coverage of University of Louisville, University of Kentucky athletics, the Kentucky Derby, a thriving high school basketball and football scene and other sports. The sports planning editor will work with journalists and other departments to devise coverage that takes advantage of our capabilities digitally and in print to deliver content that captures new audiences and engages readers.

Here’s what you can expect at The Courier-Journal:

A chance to make your mark: We’re on the move and redefining our roles. As sports planning editor you’ll be responsible for short and long range planning, involved in creating new products such as our recently launched CardsHQ and CatsHQ apps, work with other departments to identify and act on revenue opportunities and supervise a team of producers.

Great people: We’re eager to put out the best product with fun and energy.

The place: Louisville is vibrant, beautiful, and full of fantastic food, bars, pubs, galleries, parks and nightlife. It’s also super affordable to live here despite being an awesome place – the value is fantastic. Lonely Planet, Travel + Leisure and other publications have listed Louisville among its top places to visit http://www.lonelyplanet.com/north-america/travel-tips-and-articles/77583

We’re growing: Join a group that’s building and improving every day.

How is the paper growing? Subscription base is growing? Newspaper is expanding coverage?

The remainder of our staffs' workload is "growing"

  7. It's a fancy word for what used to be called assistant sports editor.

  8. Our paid print circulation base did grow last year, we're also growing in what we cover (we have a minor league soccer team coming, and we recently bumped up our Indiana high schools coverage to a full-time position) and our digital reach is growing with things like apps for specific beats and live video.

With Adam Himmelsbach leaving, does anyone know if the Courier-Journal will be filling the columnist opening? Thanks in advance.

  11. I am considering several options for filling it. I'll post a position on this board when it is finalized.
