    This photographer provides photographic coverage of spot news, enterprise and sports, including professional baseball, football, NASCAR and horse racing, primarily in Maryland and Delaware. The photographer works closely with the Mid-Atlantic/Baltimore news editor, bureau staff and national editors to ensure planning and coverage of news and enterprise in the region. This photographer generates projects that add a dimension beyond the daily report. This person helps develop and maintain a network of freelance photographers, including making and monitoring assignments. This person maintains close contact with member photographers and encourages contributions to the Mid-Atlantic photo report. This person covers national assignments as required. Travel is required.
    JOB REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate must have superior news judgment and the photographic skills to cover a wide variety of events competitively, plus a demonstrated ability to generate strong photos beyond scheduled assignments. Required skills include a sharp sense of photo composition, the ability to compose as events unfold and tell a story photographically. Creativity is critical, as well as the ability to meet deadlines. Candidates must be able to edit digital images and transmit using appropriate technology. Proficiency in writing captions that are accurate and informative is essential. Multimedia skills, such as the ability to produce audiovisual slideshows for online use, are a plus.

    Applicants must be self-motivated and well-organized, with the flexibility to juggle priorities; good planning skills are essential. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Interpersonal skills to deal constructively with co-workers, freelancers and members are paramount. Applicants must be eager and able to work as part of a team and to also work effectively independently.
