    The Associated Press seeks a Sports Photo Editor/National. This photo editor directs develops and enhances sports-photo coverage in the United States. This editor is responsible for planning, assigning and executing coverage in the United States and working with Canadian Press to coordinate coverage in North America. The photo editor works closely with AP Images to provide additional content as needed/requested, including coverage of events and parties, receptions, press conferences, etc., related to sports events. Must educate, train and constantly evaluate a proficient team of sports savvy editors from which to assign to sports events around the United States. Additionally, this editor works closely with AP staff and freelance photographers to educate, train and constantly evaluate their photo assignments with a view to building consistently superior imagery both from a quality and quantity perspective. This person will work closely with the AP sports editor, news editors and photographers to accomplish this goal.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should have management experience as a sports photo editor with strong organizational and visual skills with an in-depth knowledge of the sports marketplace and its photo coverage needs. An applicant should be self-starter with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once and work as a member of the AP visual team. Strong sports photo editing skills using computer software is a must. Applicants must be technologically proficient in examining workflows and processes with an aim to deliver more photo content faster. Additionally, candidates must be able to drive improvements and efficiencies that come from existing workflows and processes and applications of new technology. Applicants must have an in-depth understanding of the different sports-specific market needs by vertical -- newspapers, magazines/periodicals, book publishers, broadcasters and Internet/wireless. The candidate should have well-established relationships within the sports marketplace to facilitate accreditation, credentials and access to events. Travel will be required.
