    Nope. Life as normal.
The first two numbers of Alabama license plates correspond with a specific county. When you see a the one for Walker County on the road, you give them a wide berth. "64" isn't just the county code, it's an IQ vanity plate.

It's just a rural area. Like any other in the country. Not many good jobs.

This isn't plantation and mint julep living. Walker County is coal mining country up in the hills, and the accents are less Foghorn Leghorn and more Snuffy Smith. There are a handful of wealthy folks around, but they aren't sharing their dollars with the local economy. Jasper itself is a tolerable enough small town, with a full assortment of chain places to keep you from feeling completely isolated. Thanks to the new freeway, you can be in Birmingham in under half an hour now.

It has been a while since I've seen the DME, but I remember having the impression it tried to do a thorough job for its size.

I passed by the Boobie Trap for years, and never stopped. Really wish I had.

I live less than 10 minutes from the Boobie Trap... and in the five years I've lived in Hooterville, I have not felt man enough to go in.
If you go and a dancer askes you if you want a dance, you're fucked. Say yes and her redneck boyfriend with three teef thinks you're hitting on her and wants to kick your ass. Say no and he thinks you're insulting her and wants to kick your ass.
Besides, the Boobie Trap is in Jefferson County -- right across the street from Green Top.

Come on. We're lucky to even have jobs right now, especially since all we do is rewrite box scores and get paid to write about sports. It's so much fun!

You sound an awful lot like my dad has for the past 20 years.

The search is back on for this one. Apparently someone accepted the job, but backed out the next day.
