    Hmmm ...

We're looking for a sports editor at the Evening Times, a Monday-Friday evening newspaper serving about 8,000 readers in Crittenden County, Ark. You'd be basically a one-man show, so you need to be ready for some hectic weeks during high school football and basketball seasons. Our main high school has been to the football state championship game the past three years and its basketball team is fresh of back-to-back titles. We're also home of the Class AAAA state softball champs. We've got five high schools and eight junior highs that make up the bulk of our coverage. As editor, you would do it all:write, edit, design (QuarkXpress) and take pictures. The gem of the position is you can play with our boobs on your off day. Someone willing to hustle could get plenty of exposure in those two markets. Our sports section has won five state awards the past two years and we'd like to continue that trend with an up-and-coming talent.

    Yeah, that could work ...

Football Bat has a good point or two. No, maybe it's not the best gig in the world. But, a lot of it is what you make of it. It sounds like a good place to start at least. Get some good clips and move on in a year or two if you don't like it.
