Sports online producer, Houston Chronicle

    The Houston Chronicle is seeking a sports online producer. The position is responsible for curating, programming and producing content from breaking news and enterprising sports reports for chron.com and its network of websites and media platforms.

    Some details:

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Act as leader of a group of three sports producers, organizing work schedules and helping other producers develop.
    • Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content that is packaged and promoted in a way that generates interest and buzz.
    • Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) and be the first to report breaking news stories and always on the hunt for exclusive and or trending content that will drive traffic.
    • Excellent at writing buzzy headlines that increases page views, and packaging content that grows page views per visitor and time on site.
    • Evaluate website traffic trends in effort to make decisions on both daily content and longer term content development that will grow in-DMA traffic.
    • Promote and distribute news content on social media.
    • Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management, work collaboratively on enterprise content, and creating opportunities to market web content in print.


    SKILL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • Extensive knowledge of the Houston sports scene.
    • 2 years’ experience in digital media and journalism.
    • Clever headline writer that gets readers to click.
    • Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision maker.
    • Knowledge of SEO best practices and AP Style.
    • Enjoys working in teams and has excellent interpersonal skills
    • Ease with/ability to learn new technology independently and quickly.
    • Comfortable adapting to changes in evolving industry and thrives under pressure
    • Schedule flexibility (nights, weekends)
    • Proficiency in MS Office; HTML, CSS and Photoshop experience a plus.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree
