The Orange County Register is seeking an experienced, versatile editor to work at night with our OCVarsity high schools team and the rest of the Register’s sports staff. The ideal candidate will possess strong news judgment, experience as a line editor and a background in multi-platform environments that required everything from first reads on deadline to posting on websites. The editor must be able to work independently with reporters but recognize when the sports editor or OCVarsity team leader should be contacted. Excellent communication with the copy desk is vital. Knowledge of the Orange County high school sports scene is a plus. This editor will work night and weekend shifts, focusing on our high schools and other sports coverage for the Register, OCVarsity.com and OCRegister.com’s sports pages.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience that includes some editing and work on websites. The position pays a competitive salary based on experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package. To apply, send resume, cover letter, salary requirements and any examples of your work you feel can demonstrate your pertinent skills to tharmonson@ocregister.com. Write “sports night assistant editor” in the subject line. No phone calls please.
