The Greenwood (S.C.) Index-Journal, a 12,000-circulation daily newspaper, is looking for a talented, energetic and detailed-oriented copy editor/page designer to join its award-winning team.
Your first thoughts? Small, daily newspaper in Podunk, S.C. We don’t blame you. We don’t have the glitz and glamour of a major metro (circa 1990). We do, however, have a hard-working staff that has far surpassed the parameters established for a small, daily newspaper.
    How so?
In the past three years, our newspaper collected 86 South Carolina Press Association awards. We've won the President's Cup, a points-based honor given to the best newspaper in each circulation category. We've placed in General Excellence (overall newspaper award) two of the last three years. Awards-wise, it's the most successful three-year stretch in newspaper history.
One reason why we've been so successful has been an increased emphasis on presentation.
Copy editing and page design are a vital component of our newspaper. In the past two years, we've won 13 copy editing/page design awards and 31 photography honors. Quality presentation isn’t just a buzzword at our paper, it’s a reality.
This is the ideal job for somebody fresh out of college or a talented journalist looking to make the move up from a weekly, but proven veterans looking to relocate to a charming Southern town are welcome to apply, as well.
Want to join our award-winning team? Want to work at a newspaper not tied to the corporate structure, endlessly slashing staff in hopes of generating more money for stockholders? Want to work at a newspaper where quality journalism — above all other things — is the paramount objective?
To apply, send your resume, a cover letter and 5-10 page-design clips via regular mail or email to:
