Sports Internship - Cape Cod Times

The Cape Cod Times is opening its search to find a summer 2018 intern.

This is a great internship for those still in school or graduating this spring, and those looking to establish a strong pile of clips covering college baseball. The summer intern basically becomes a daily beat person covering the Cape Cod Baseball League, which is the most prestigious summer league in the nation.

Our last intern had four job offers by the end of summer 2017.

It is a 10-week commitment, so if you are a graduating senior, you must stay until the end of the summer.

The intern covers games on tight deadlines, writes features and drums up news on a daily basis. The summer intern will also be one of the talking heads in our weekly Cape League podcast. Being able to shoot videos with your phone is an added plus. But this is a job suited for writing, making great contacts, testing your interviewing/reporting skills and producing clips that you'll be proud of.

The competition for this spot is already pretty challenging, which is exactly how I like it. Please indicate your interest with a cover letter, resume and a selection of 3-4 clips to:

No phone calls, please. Please indicate your references on the resume.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Only downside: you’ll likely pay a ton for rent.

OK, downside 2: GateHouse. But you’re only there for the summer.

Big upside: Their people go places. One covered the Nats for a spell and is now works for the team, another is on the Sox beat for MassLive. (Chelsea Janes at the Post might have been here, too.)

Quick ferry rides to the islands, wonderful beaches, nice little towns ... the Cape is great in the summer, save the traffic, and I’ve heard Paul is a good guy.

And, yes, the biggest summer challenge to the Cape is definitely housing. Our last intern had been a Cape League team intern in Cotuit, so he hooked up again with the same family he had lived with previously. There are often Cape families who take in interns, or just other Cape Cod Times interns looking to share a room or cottage. Then again, our 2016 intern lived off-Cape and just made the trip over the bridge every day.
