Lot has to do with it being once a week. the whole buildup for the game and the tailgate are very popular. lot of buddies, who like basketball or hockey, would rather watch the draft than an nba or nhl playoff game. the pregame and preseason stories in football are covered in much greater detail.

college basketball games almost never mean anything until the NCAA tournament. Even conference tourney games don't often mean much, with first teams like South Carolina losing early and then almost winning the entire NCAA tourney a few weeks later. I can watch college basketball occasionally and enjoy it, but the rivalries are mostly dead bc of the one and done culture. Like who is kentucky's main rival? Duke's is still UNC, but they are the rarity of a long maintained rivalry. All those big east rivalries were decimated. It's never going back to how it was, sadly.

You're kidding, right? It's in the same state.

Yes, but they're in different conferences so they only play once a season. Would be better if Kentucky had a good rival in the SEC. Guess for a few seasons Florida was a pretty good rivalry.

Louisville? Fine. That makes two marquee rivalries for an entire sport

Because Hield is the best* while Fournette really is the best.

Blame NBA players. They're the ones who have been wooed into thinking 2 years - which would make many of these NBA players better - is some sort of death blow to 19 year olds.

They really think it's a death blow, or they would rather choose to get paid real money and have better coaching and facilities to do the same thing.

God forbid they have a choice.

"They" being who...the NBA players who won't agree to it in a bargaining agreement?

Yeah. You think the NBA players should agree to make playing two years in college mandatory? What the f for, to benefit college coaches and administrators?

It'd make the NBA better. It'd make the incoming players better.

The best thing that has happened to college hoops and football is allowing players to transfer after graduating without skipping a year.
