How long until MLB has a team in Vegas now? New Jersey will probably have sports books open by COB today and New York probably won't be far behind. There's going to be sports betting in most MLB cities in the very near future.

Expand to 32 teams, put franchises in Portland and Vegas, and eliminate everyday interleague play.

This is good for those inclined to wager on games because it'll no longer be illegal to do so and you won't have to be in Vegas. I'm not getting too excited because I want to see how the states screw it up — and they most certainly will.

By the first three posts, one would think that betting on baseball is actually a popular thing.

That sound you hear are the screams of Vegas tourism officials. If I can legally bet all the games in March Madness from a place down the street, I'm already ahead of the game by saving on airfare and a hotel and the creative $30-a-day resort fee.

Have we talked about this here?

The resort fees and having to pay for parking on the strip has pissed off a lot of people who frequent Vegas (including locals)

I don't know how much this has been discussed here. I saw a story a few weeks ago about tourism in Vegas, rates are down for something like six months in a row, and one expert/observer said people aren't going to LV at the same rate because they're tired of being nickel-and-dimed for $30 or $40 a day.

I think there's some validity to this rationale. I'd rather have that cash to gamble.

My post isn't about betting on MLB at all. It's about the removal of the rationale that MLB always had for not putting a team in Vegas. Since there will be sports betting in many/most/all MLB cities very soon, there's no longer a reason to consider Vegas as a viable location for a franchise.

I was in Vegas for the first time in December and was tired of it within three days. Event was at Mandelay Bay but we were housed in the Luxor. First off, my room didn't have a coffee maker, meaning I had to stumble down to the casino floor every morning for a $6 cup of regular coffee from Starbucks. Secondly, every damned thing under the sun is expensive -- seriously, $16 for a rum and coke can go to hell. Take a ride down to Fremont St. and see what the cost of things are and you'll really see how badly they're gouging folks staying on the Strip. Thirdly, our organization held a banquet at Mandelay Bay and were kind enough to not provide what was paid for and then made up for it with awful service.
