The Yazoo Herald, a twice-weekly paper in Yazoo City, MS, is seeking a sports editor. Responsibilities will include covering four local high schools, youth sports and feature writing and designing the sports page. We also publish three annual sports magazines. Our focus is on local sports at four area high schools, plus following local athletes on the college and professional levels. Some general news assignments will also be required as needed. The ideal candidate will have strong writing and photography skills and be a self starter. If you have the drive and the right attitude, but need to develop some skills, we will train. This is a great opportunity for a young journalist looking to work for a strong community newspaper or an experienced sports writer looking to enjoy life in a small town. We offer a competitive salary and benefits. Send letter of interest, resume and references to jason@yazooherald.net.

A high school classmate of mine spent several years there as a guest of the federal government.

Yazoo City is the where the hills meet the Delta. There isn't much to do there or anywhere nearby. except maybe Udorn's award-winning BBQ. The local prep sports scene ain't the best. Good start for a newbie cutting his teeth.
