Busy community newspaper in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains seeks an enthusiastic sports editor with a penchant for high school competitive team sports and the outdoors. Must possess a strong head for journalism. Ideal candidate will be able to inform, engage and inspire the Haywood County community through writing, photography and personal engagement.

Perks of this position include the ability to cover one of the top high-school football rivalries in the nation, a chance to embrace outdoor activities in the geographic center of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Pisgah National Forest and the opportunity to become part of an idyllic, mostly rural community with a lively tourist economy and is close to Asheville, N.C.

The ideal candidate will be as comfortable writing feature stories as providing game coverage, will be able to take good photos and have the ability to manage a pool of free-lance contributors. Social media skills, including some video, are important. Experience working in a newsroom and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
