The Times of Northwest Indiana, a 90,000+ circulation award-winning daily located 30 miles from downtown Chicago, is looking for a highly motivated, creative sports editor to lead a staff charged with being the dominant source for LOCAL sports news in print and on its various digital platforms, including nwi.com.

This position is responsible for developing, coordinating and managing a thorough local sports report that ranges from the digital immediacy of breaking news and high school game updates to well-planned, long- and short-range enterprise journalism projects.

The Times, Indiana’s second-largest daily newspaper, offers competitive compensation, an excellent benefits package, and a great working environment. Interested candidates may apply on line at nwi.com/timesjobs

OK, what is the deal here? This opening comes up too frequently.

I was going to bump up the old thread last night, but since this is on here... Courtney Linehan was named Managing Editor of RedEye, the Trib's tabloid.

I think the caps lock LOCAL says it all. I have heard there is more emphasis on preps than at most papers this close to a major metro area, even with Chicago and Notre Dame within spitting distance. Obviously you need to have a balance if you cover the pros in a suburban market, but they like the teeter-totter with one end down.

The Lee jobs page says this job is no longer available, for what it's worth.

Go on the Lee website and directly apply. It's still listed there.

Did anyone apply for this the first time or might the paper have the bar set a little too high? Or are they looking for someone to work for peanuts?

The same job was posted two weeks ago so I don't think anyone had time to get hired and then leave.

I'm told someone from the West Coast has been hired to fill this position. That's all I know.

David Keck, Editor at Victorville Daily Press, is the guy, I'm told.
