Looks like the last opening was about three years ago: http://www.sportsjournalists.com/forum/posts/2940133/

The Daily Republic, a 12,000-circulation, six-day daily newspaper in Mitchell, S.D., has promoted its sports editor and seeks a new sports editor for an immediate opening.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for sports at all levels; strong writing, copy-editing, photography and page-design skills; and the ability to lead and coordinate a sports staff of two other full-time employees and one part-timer.

The Daily Republic has a proud tradition and has won the South Dakota Newspaper Association's General Excellence award for its circulation category each of the past four years. Coverage opportunities in Mitchell include a high school and a college, plus more than 30 high school athletic programs in our print circulation area. It's a region with a strong sports culture that has produced three professional athletes in recent years: the Miami Heat's Mike Miller (Mitchell native), the Minnesota Vikings' Chad Greenway (Mount Vernon native) and the Detroit Lions' Riley Reiff (Parkston native).

To apply, send a cover letter, resume and work samples to Seth Tupper, editor, at stupper@mitchellrepublic.com (include "sports editor" in the subject line). Only the applicants chosen for interviews will be contacted.

I did this job a little while back, but left for an opportunity closer to home.

PM me if you any questions.
