    Description:

    Yahoo is seeking a sports editor to oversee mobile alerts. This is a full-time contract position (requires nights and weekend shifts).

    We're looking for a tech-savvy, creative and organized curator/editor to help surface the latest breaking sports news on the Yahoo Sports application through mobile notifications. You will be responsible for the daily oversight of notifications for teams in the four major U.S. sports leagues: NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. The ideal candidate will have a background in sports journalism and experience in online production/publishing. A thorough understanding of mobile consumption is also desired.

    Key traits include being flexible, energetic, efficient and able to work independently on deadline while maintaining attention to detail. This position requires interacting with fellow employees throughout the company to ensure that the users’ experiences are always of the highest quality. Time management skills are critical.

    Responsibilities

    · Commitment to accuracy and quality control
    · Experience writing headlines and editing
    · Working knowledge of Associated Press style is strongly preferred


    Qualifications
    · BA/BS in Journalism, Communications, or equivalent and 2+ years of related online/mobile expereince
    · Must be technically sound, solution-oriented, and have a solid background in working with complex online content management tool

    · Must be extremely organized and able to multitask in a rapidly changing, high-pressure environment
    · Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    · Experience in editorial production and publishing. Background in sports journalism is essential—specifically thorough knowledge of the four major U.S. sports leagues
    · Background working in mobile/desktop blogging platforms such as Tumblr
    · Must possess a clear voice, energetic writing ability, critical eye, and knowledge of major news trends
    · Experience in using social media networks to both promote and find stories, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Reddit
    · Exceptional analytical aptitude and attention to detail
    · Organizational and problem-solving skills
    · Good team player who is self-motivated and well organized

    I can tell you it'll be at least 30% less than that of a non-contract sports editor with a similar if not equal job description.
