Suburban Life Media is seeking a sports editor to coordinate its daily online sports report and weekly print sports sections in Chicago's western suburbs. We publish hyperlocal websites and newspapers that connect with our readers because we write about their communities, their schools, the names and faces that readers see every day.

This is an opportunity for an editor or writer to step in and lead coverage of a robust high school sports scene and community sports. We are looking for an editor who will continue to grow our print and digital audience, and who relishes taking chances with innovative enterprise and feature ideas.

Candidates must understand the difference between writing and editing for print and writing and editing for various digital platforms, and that today's sports news must be reported as it happens. A strong understanding and comfort level with disseminating news and scores via social media is essential.

The sports editor is responsible for compiling weekly sports budgets for 18 print editions, generating and assigning stories, cultivating sources and helping to ensure that the sports writers are performing at a high level. Qualified candidates must have experience in a deadline-driven environment and demonstrate the ability to write clear, concise and engaging sports stories and features. Candidates should possess a passion for community sports journalism and the ability to work collaboratively with photographers and reporters to produce a great newspaper and website.

This is a hands-on supervisory position, with the expectation that there will be reporting and writing duties in addition to editing. Candidates should have a college degree in journalism, communications, or a related field and previous experience supervising sports writers.

Shaw Media offers an extensive benefit package.
